Why do you want it?

You are looking for a narrow handlebar that lets you get into that aero position up top while retaining control when descending in the drops.

You might also be using a bike with fully integrated cable routing that doesn't let you go as low as you would like — a common problem for shorter riders on gravel bikes with clearance for big tires.

You are using a bike with a wireless electronic drivetrain and can live with a bar designed to route only 2 hydraulic hoses.

What is it?

It's a 250g carbon handlebar primarily designed with gravel racing in mind, but it can also be used for road bikes.

The bar features the following measurements and only comes in one size. Please see the last image in the carousel for a dimensioned drawing (in mm). The highlights are:

  • ~31mm c-c at the tops and 32mm c-c at the clamping area of the hoods, flaring out to 376mm C-C where your hands rest in the drops
  • 100mm of reach (c-c from the clamping area) and are 105mm deep. This gives you the length to sustainably hold an aero hoods position, while moving the drops up 5-10mm for increased control
  • Tops are up to 60mm deep and feature an aero-shaped top profile with a flat top for comfort. The bars sweep back to enable as ergonomic a grip as possible on the tops, given the deep profile
  • Ramps are also shaped to be flat and dropped by 17mm to provide a lower effective stack height for gravel racing

This allows you to find a comfortable, narrow, aero position with plenty of surface area to support your hands and wrists, while providing superb descending control in the drops.

The bar uses an integrated computer mount that allows angle adjustability while avoiding stem mounts, meaning it can be used with most stems that fit 31.8mm bars. A mount that fits Garmin / Wahoo computers and a light/aero sensor are included with the purchase of this bar. This mount uses titanium hardware.

The bar does also ship pre routed with a short length of hose on each side and a SRAM/Rockshox tool to connect the pre-routed hose to your hydraulic hose. This is a nod to our desire for an easy install, something we ended up having to trade off to meet the safety levels we wished for.

This bar is designed for off-road use. Our testing followed the highest industry standard we could find, TBIS, making sure to use the higher of road or off-road values.

The fatigue testing schedule below is a great example of the difference.

 Test Force Applied Cycles
ISO Road Bar
Out-of-Phase Loading 280N 100,000
In-Phase Loading 400N 100,000
AProto Bike P17
Out-of-Phase Loading 280N then 330N 100,000 then 100,000 more
In-Phase Loading 450N then 500N 100,000 then 100,000 more

The bar is also designed to accommodate Zeno quick couplers, allowing easy maintenance or, if you travel with the bike, easy removal of the bar to pack it into bike boxes or bags.

The bar can be set up to be UCI-compliant / road-legal, as tested with SRAM AXS E1 levers. Please contact us for more information regarding UCI use.

An in-depth blog post about this bar and mount can be found here. Please see the details regarding hose routing and bar wrapping.

This bar is patent pending.

NOTE: This bar is not compatible with Enve InRoute stems due to an oversight regarding stem's internal width. We anticipate correcting this in the future.

How is it Made?

The bars are made by a trusted carbon manufacturing partner in China. True to their gravel-racing-based design intent, these bars exceed both ISO 4210 and TBIS 4210 standards for road and mountain bike handlebars.

These computer mounts are printed in the USA using HP MJF machines and Nylon PA12 material. Titanium hardware may be sourced from multiple countries.

NOTE: The photos may show weights inserted into the ends of the bars for display purposes. Please see third photo for product without weights. This bar takes normal bar ends.
